Map of the Night Swallows
Steel, Porcelain, Acrylic, Light Box
14" x 14" x 8"
Map of the Night Swallow is inspired by the migratory patterns of songbirds, many of which migrate at night. Scientists believe that they use the stars to navigate the darkness and unfamiliar terrain, much as ancient sailors did. It has been determined that baby songbirds are born with maps of the stars genetically encoded in their DNA, so that they can never lose their way.
